About Your Magazine:
The Decorative Painter has been off schedule this year due to health issues that prevented our publications staff from working for a period of time. Our long-time editor, Cheryl Capps, has resigned due to health issues. Cheryl was able to work along with our new editor, Judith "Jay" Staten for several weeks. Jay has thirty years of publications experience and previously worked at North Light books and for the American Quilters Society.
The number one priority for the publications staff is to insure that the Decorative Painter stays on schedule from now on. You will receive four issues this year. Issue 3 will be mailed in early October and Issue 4 will be mailed at the end of November.
All the designs published in the Decorative Painter are created by our members. We encourage all of you who design to submit to the Decorative Painter. We want to promote new designers, as well as continuing to publish designers who are already known and loved. Members also are invited to submit suggestions of those whose designs they would like to see in the magazine.
As electronic books readers are becoming more popular, starting in 2012, the Decorative Painter will be available for members to download in book reader format. So, in addition to being able to read it in the paper edition or download it in .pdf form, you will also be able to carry it with you in your I Pad, Kindle, or other electronic device.
About SDP Conference:
The SDP convention has been in Wichita for the last 2 years and will be held there again next summer, May 2012. There has been a lot of speculation and rumors since SDP announced that a new location would be found for 2013. While it is true that the Society is exploring the possibility of another convention hosting its annual meeting, we have never announced that next summer will be our last convention. We are exploring many possibilities and, if we collaborate with another convention in 2013, we would hope to return to hosting our own conventions at some point in the future. Please wait to hear directly from your Society, we will let you know what we decide as soon as we know.
Membership Discount Opportunities:
SDP is offering a special holiday season promotion again this year. During the holiday season gift memberships to your friends who are not currently SDP members can be purchased for $5 less. Watch for the announcement of the beginning of this promotion.
Also, don't forget that whenever you recruit a new member you need to be sure that they put your name on the membership application as the person who recruited them, so that you will be credited with a discount toward your own renewal. If you recruit 10 members, your own renewal is free.
Board Member Liaisons to Chapters
Each chapter has been assigned to an SDP Board member. Your chapter has been assigned to me, so I am your Chapter's personal representative to the Board of Directors. I hope to communicate regularly with your Chapter President. You can also contact me directly with your news, concerns and questions. Working together, we can accomplish great things. Thank you for helping the Society as we work to keep promoting and sharing decorative painting.
